Senior's Golf League

The Senior’s Golf League plays every Wednesday morning in the golf season (view the schedule below).  Men and women, 50 years or older, are invited to play in this league.  The season usually starts in early April and finishes in late October, with the weather and course conditions permitting.

The Senior’s Golf League is informal, with no committees and no officers, just a sociable group who enjoy a little competition on the golf course.  We have players with handicaps ranging from 7 to 35, and we welcome all players.  We keep track of handicaps, and make up teams that are fair and competitive.  (See Geezer's handicap chart below.) 

We play various formats of golf: individual gross/net, scrambles, two- and four-person best ball, and other fun formats.  We use either the sand (6,057 yards) or green (5,549 yards) tees, depending on gender, age and handicap levels.

The players who show up, out of our current pool of about 25, ante money into the day’s prize pool.  On days when we play the individual format, each player antes $10 to the prize money pool.  This money is divided into a winner’s and skins payout pool.  On days when we play team and regular formats, each player antes $5 to the prize money pool.  All of the day’s prize money pools are paid to the winners, or individuals who earn skins, as applicable.     

Seniors who are interested can contact Ed Kujalowicz, Head Pro at the Springs Ranch Golf Club, or just show up any Wednesday between April and October.  There is no annual fee to join.  The early season tee times start at 9 am, with mid-season (summer) starting at 8 am.  Come out and join in the fun and sociable golf.  We welcome all newcomers.

April 03 - 3, 4 or 5 person scramble.

April 10 - 2- person best ball - handicap only [PO]. All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps.

April 17 -  3, 4 or 5- person Florida scramble (player whose shot is selected, sits out next shot).

 April 24 - Individual gross & net [PO] ($4 to winner’s pool; $6 to skins pool gross & net). All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps.

 May 01 - 2- person combined - handicap [PO]. All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps.

May 08 - 3, 4 or 5 person scramble.

May 15 - 2- person triple tournament (6 best balls, 6 scramble, 6 alternate shot) -  (best ball: use lowest net score; scramble: use gross; alternate shot: use h/cap net of person who sinks putt).

 May 22 - Individual – handicap only [PO] ($4 to winner’s pool; $6 to skins pool gross & net). All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps.

 May 29 - Play with the Pros – scramble.

June 05 - Par 3 tournament - 3 or 4- person team - gross & net on your own score:

 Par 3 – use green tees; play own ball all the way to finish

                   Par 4 – use team’s best drive; then play own ball to finish

                   Par 5 – use team’s best 1^st & 2^nd shots; then play own ball to finish

June 12 - 3, 4 or 5 person scramble.

June 19 - Individual - handicap only [PO] ($4 to winner’s pool; $6 to skins pool gross & net).  All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps. 

June 26 - 4 or 5 person team - 1, 2 & 3 (1st hole lowest score, 2nd hole two lowest scores total, 3rd hole three lowest scores total, 4th hole lowest score, etc.). All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps. 

July 10 - 3, 4 or 5 person scrambles.

July 17 - Individual gross & net [PO] ($4 to winner’s pool; $6 to skins pool gross & net).  All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps.

July 24 - 2- person combined handicap [PO]. All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps. 

July 31 - Play with the Pros – scramble.

 Aug 07 - Smitty’s Tournament - 3, 4 or 5 person scrambles.

 Aug 14 - 2- person best ball - gross & handicap [PO]. All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps. 

 Aug 21 - 2- person combined – handicap – orange ball – [PO]. All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps.                          

Aug 28 - 4 or 5 person team - 1, 2 & 3  (1st hole lowest score, 2nd hole two lowest scores total, 3rd hole three lowest scores total, 4th hole  lowest score, etc.).  All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps.

Sept 04 - Total Par 3's - All players total the par 3's score. All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps.

 Sept 11 - 2 person best ball – handicap only [PO]. All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps.

 Sept 18 - Play with the Pros – scramble.

 Sept 25 - 3 or 4 person schramble (Pick best drive off of tee, then everyone plays their own ball in from there).

 Oct 02 - 4 or 5 person team - 1, 2 & 3  (1st hole lowest score, 2nd hole two lowest scores total, 3rd hole three lowest scores total, 4th hole lowest score, etc.). All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps.

 Oct 09 – Individual gross & net [PO] ($4 to winner’s pool; $6 to skins pool gross & net).  All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps.

 Oct 16 - 3, 4 or 5 person scrambles.

 Oct 23 - Individual - handicap only [PO] ($4 to winner’s pool; $6 to skins pool gross & net).  All players’ scores are recorded for handicaps. 

 Oct 30 - 3, 4 or 5 person scrambles.

Notes:

1)      Prize Money Payouts:

a)  For individual events, each player pays $10 to the prize money pool.  The split will be $4 to the winner’s pool, and $6 to the skins pool.  The skins prize money pool will be evenly divided between gross and net skins.  A player can win only one skin per hole, either gross or net.  If there are no skins, all the prize money will be awarded to the winners.

b)  For all other regular events, each player pays $5 to the prize money pool.  The whole pool is awarded to the day’s winners.   

2)      Players with handicaps 19 and above can take only one stroke on Par 3’s for team play events; full handicap on individual play.

3)      Our league rules permit a player to lift, clean, and place the ball only when it is in your own fairway.  The greens’ fringes are considered to be fairway.  A player can place the ball within 6 inches of the original lie.  You are not permitted to move the ball in sand traps or the roughs.

4)      For out-of-bounds and unplayable balls, our league rules permit the player to drop a ball in play, and take a one-stroke penalty, without having to return to the tee or previous position.

5)      When playing events such as the individual format, putt all putts completely out, for handicap purposes.

6)      Women may always tee off from the green tees.

7)      Men may tee off from the green tees if the combination of their age plus handicap equals 95 or above.  Otherwise, tee off from the sand tees.

Handicaps will be tracked and revised monthly.
